Water Damage Cleanup & Remediation

Most water damage occurs when people are away from home or asleep. The most common water damage problems are from leaking water heaters, overflowing toilets, and the occasional broken pipe. Oregon’s long rainy season can also bring the danger of rainwater flooding, although the state is generally considered to be at a lower risk than the national average.

A water leak soaking into drywall or particle wood cabinets provide the optimal environment for mold to grow. Left unattended, mold will start growing within 24-48 hours, which means that remediation needs to take place as soon as the damage is found. If there is any doubt about how much time has passed since the water damage has occurred, the likelihood of mold growth increases dramatically.

Water Damage Cleanup & Remediation Process

Depending on the extent of the impact, water damage cleanups can take time to remediate. As such, the safety of our technicians is an absolute necessity during the water damage cleanup and remediation process. We use proper PPE and up-to-date training on cleaning techniques and chemical usage to make sure that our technicians have the skills to properly handle water damage events.
  • Inspection – First, we inspect to see if there are any visible mold. If we find mold growth, we will treat it with a EPA approved fungicide to kill the mold and halt mold growth while the work is being done.

  • Containment – If the mold is found in only one area of the property, we will establish a containment area to reduce the likelihood of secondary mold impact to other areas of the home. It may be necessary to perform a chemical fogging treatment throughout the home and the HVAC vents to reduce the possibility of rogue spores having colonized throughout the home.

  • Dry Time – Once the cause of the water damage has been dealt with, we use de-humidifiers and air movers to dry out the structure. These will run unattended with one of our technicians checking the moisture levels in the home at specific times.

  • Clean & Disinfect – Once your home reaches the appropriate levels of relative humidity, we clean and disinfect any areas that were previously impacted by water damage. Our aim is to destroy any present mold growth and inhibit any future mold growth in those impacted areas.

We will always make our best attempt to save any property including items that have been impacted by the standing water. Occasionally, we will make the decision to remove them to assist in the drying process. This will be determined on site with your technician.

If the drywall is saturated, mushy, or sagging, it will need to be removed and replaced. If it hasn’t reached this level of damage it may be able to be dried out and sanitized. Every situation is different so these scenarios will need to be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Structural integrity, aesthetics, and future mold growth are all concerns to be addressed when it comes to wet drywall.

While proper air circulation does help, you could also add more types of mold and fungi to the mix from the many that live outside. If there is water damage causing mold growth in your home, it should be addressed by plumbers and mold remediation professionals.
